Balanced Focus Counseling
The Balanced Focus method

"I see patients move out of being a “victim” of their neurology to a “Victor” of their neurology."

As a psychotherapist, I will help you to understand the neurological barriers that cause us non-linear thinkers consequences in our lives. These can manifest as emotionalism, high intellect, memory, impulsiveness, brain shut down, lethargy (lack of stimulation, brain pain), storming of thoughts, depression, anxiety, underachievement, social awkwardness and so much. It is a painful and lonely place to be without out strategies that can get us unstuck.

This type of therapy embraces the natural gifts that make us who we are. It is not about making you a linear thinker but balancing out those areas that are imbalanced inside of you. I will not push or force you to move any faster than your nervous system can handle. Together, we will create goals, internal and external structure and learn to walk through the nervous system "brain pain" that often causes us to quit or shutdown. You will have a new vocabulary and identification of these neurological queues and know how to self-soothe and self-advocate. You will get your voice back and learn how to be a part of the world rather than the world is happening to you!

You have permission to be agitated, doubtful, pessimistic, and guarded because of our histories with society, academia, families, and providers not understanding. The Neurotrauma has caused a strong guardedness and reason to be pessimistic and with time as you start to see the changes. Your walls and doubts will start to soften as you experience relief. We will learn how to trust ourselves again and harness our natural gifts.

Other methods such as brain training and medication are helpful and can stabilize patients so they can go deeper with this treatment. I have found that these methods alone do not provide the nervous system re-coding that is needed to take control of our internal world. Higher executive functions do help but will not correct the thinking distortions and the missing internal instructions in our brains.

With future studies, we will be able to eventually show figures that can provide evidence of this type of therapies effectiveness. I will introduce it in 2019 as new rehabilitation psychotherapy and as a primary foundational therapy. It will help patients to increase success rates and offer a higher quality of life for those with cognitive issues. We are still pulling together our data and research to introduce this therapy to all therapists that wish to train.

You deserve to have a higher quality of life and an equal chance to heal!
